Installing High Priority Update for Windows XP Media Center Edition
Posted by jmspence on 7 Sep 2012 9:22 PM |
I had to restore my Dell system back to the way it was when it came from the factory.? I have applied all of the Windows Updates that it finds except one:? KB973768 and it keeps failing.? The log file tells me that it is missing a prerequisite.? I have tried the solutions I have found on MS's website but they did not help.? How can I tell what the prerequisite(s) are for this update.? When it fails I receive error 8007F0F4,? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you,
Jason

Hi Jason,
I have researched and found this link which has several reviews and suggested answers. The ?KB973768 update could be uninstalled from Add/Remove programs and there is a registry fix to force install this update. Try reading this:
forums.cnet.com/.../can-t-install-kb973768
Before the registry is edited I would recommend to back up the registry. To back up registry use the below link:
windows.microsoft.com/.../Back-up-the-registry
Do reply with the results.
Thanks and Regards
